Velammal Institute of Technology Explores Real-World AI at Askan Technologies

Our office got a fresh dose of brainpower and energy on Saturday, August 23rd. We had the pleasure of welcoming 114 enthusiastic 2nd-year students from the AI and Data Science department of Velammal Institute of Technology. Their visit was a fantastic reminder of the bright future of technology.
A huge thanks goes out to their Assistant Professors who joined and guided them throughout the day: Mrs. G. Sujitha, Mr. K. Dinesh Kumar, Mr. Rajesh, and Ms. Sophia.
About Velammal Institute of Technology
Velammal Institute of Technology, located in Chennai, is known for its strong focus on innovation, practical learning, and academic excellence. The college encourages its students to explore real-world applications of technology beyond the classroom. By blending solid theoretical foundations with industry exposure, the institution is shaping students into professionals who are ready to face the challenges of the future.
The AI and Data Science department, in particular, has been playing a key role in preparing students for the rapidly evolving tech landscape. Their commitment to hands-on learning and problem-solving was clearly reflected in the curiosity and energy their 2nd-year students brought to our office during this visit.
A Glimpse of the Real World
For many students, the day began with their first real look inside a working tech company. We took them on a tour, not just to show desks and computers but to let them feel the energy of the workplace. They saw our teams huddled around screens, collaborating to solve problems, and experienced the creative buzz that no textbook can capture.
A Conversation About the Future
After the tour, our Head of Human Resource, Ms. Meenakshi Devi, sat down with the students for an open conversation. This was not a lecture but a practical discussion about building a career you truly enjoy. She shared simple yet powerful advice, from making a resume that tells a story to understanding why strong communication skills are just as important as technical expertise.
She also explained about internship opportunities that our company provides. Students can take part both online and offline, giving them the flexibility to learn in a way that suits their needs while still gaining real-world industry exposure.
From the Developer’s Desk: A Real-World AI Solution
To bring the students closer to our daily work, one of our Developers, Sivapriyan N, shared how we transform a client’s idea into a fully functional product, step by step.
During his session, a student, Pranesh S, posed a very real challenge:
“I was building an app with hundreds of images and videos, and it became hard to find a specific file because I could not remember all the names or keywords. Is there a smarter way to search for media?”
This was the perfect example of where AI shines. Sivapriyan explained how AI can automatically analyze and tag media content instead of relying on manually typed keywords.
“Imagine you upload an image of a red car in front of a building,” he said. “The AI can identify it and tag it with ‘red car,’ ‘building,’ ‘vehicle,’ and even the dominant colors. Later, even if you forget the filename, you could simply search for ‘red car’ or ‘image with a building,’ and the AI would instantly find it. It is no longer about you remembering keywords, it is about letting AI understand the content for you.”
Following this, many other students began asking a series of thoughtful and practical questions. Their curiosity showed how eager they were to connect what they had learned in the classroom with real-world applications. The session quickly turned into an engaging two-way exchange of ideas.
A Gift with a Deeper Meaning
At the end of the session, we handed out two special gifts to the faculty and the students who asked questions: a miniature clay house and a clay sprout maker. These were kindly provided by Ulamart, one of our valued clients. The meaning behind the gifts was simple but powerful.
The clay house represented the strong foundation the students are building with their education. The sprout maker symbolized their potential to grow, a reminder that even the smallest idea, when nurtured, can grow into something extraordinary.
More Than Just a Visit
The day was truly a two-way street. The 2nd-year students of Velammal Institute of Technology left with fresh inspiration and a clearer picture of their future. Our team, in turn, felt re-energized by their passion and curiosity.
A big thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing the incredible things these bright minds will create in the years to come.
