St. Joseph’s AML Students Explore Askan Technologies
On the morning of July 23, 2025, over a hundred and seventeen spirited young minds from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AML) at St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Chennai, stepped out of their routine academic environment and into the heart of a thriving IT company. The destination was Askan Technologies, a place where ideas are built into products and teamwork is more than just a concept. What unfolded was not just a visit, but a day that sparked insight, ambition, and inspiration.
A College That Blends Knowledge with Application
St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, located in Chennai, has consistently nurtured not only strong academic discipline but also a commitment to industry readiness. Known for its innovation-focused departments, the college encourages students to seek learning experiences beyond the classroom.
The B.Tech students from the AML department embody this spirit well. Their energy, curiosity, and drive to understand real-world tech workflows reflect a campus culture that values both intelligence and initiative.
A Walk Through Real Workspaces
The moment students stepped into the Askan office, their usual ideas of corporate environments were challenged. It was not a space full of stiff formalities. Instead, they found an open, engaging atmosphere where people worked together in focused clusters, brainstorming, designing, and debugging.
Rather than being shown displays or presentations, students were guided through various workstations where they could see how real projects evolve. From the planning walls to the coding desks, every corner revealed something different. It was a chance to quietly observe, absorb, and understand how digital products come to life.
Insights from the People Behind the Process
Later in the day, students gathered for a conversation led by two insightful team members from HR. Mrs. Meenakshi, with her seasoned industry experience, and Ms. Fahmeedha, known for her fresh and dynamic approach, welcomed the students into a dialogue instead of a lecture.
They shared what companies like Askan look for when hiring, how learning does not stop at college, and why soft skills and curiosity often matter more than perfect grades. It was not a typical session filled with slides and jargon. It was honest, practical, and filled with advice that truly resonated.
Student Voices That Shaped the Day
The discussion took a dynamic turn when a few students stepped forward with bold, thoughtful questions.
Akshay D, a B.Tech AML student, stood out with his entrepreneurial spirit. He shared his work on a marine safety mobile app, designed to improve emergency response through AI-driven features like real-time alerts and location tracking.
What made his contribution special was not just the idea, but his initiative. He boldly requested a chance to present his project directly to the Managing Director of Askan Technologies. The team appreciated his passion and assured him a personal meeting would be arranged.
Akshay’s drive showed how classroom learning can grow into real-world innovation, and how curiosity, when paired with confidence, opens doors.
Meanwhile, Sai Siva Rubha H, asked a sharp, business-driven question: does Askan see itself as a competitor in the e-commerce space? Ms. Fahmeedha offered a clear response. She explained that while Askan builds powerful web and mobile platforms across multiple industries, including e-commerce, the company operates as a service provider and not as a market competitor.
These moments sparked meaningful conversations, showing not just how much the students were learning, but how ready they are to think beyond the classroom.
Appreciation for the Faculty Who Guided the Journey
The entire experience was made possible by the support and guidance of four dedicated faculty members. Mr. N. Raja Mohamed, Mr. Nirmal Kumar, Ms. Priyadharshini, and Ms. Poornima, all Assistant Professors in the AML department, accompanied the students and played an active role in making sure every part of the day was meaningful.
Their presence added both academic depth and personal encouragement, helping students connect classroom learning with what they observed in action.
What the Day Meant
By the end of the day, students were buzzing with ideas. Conversations continued well after the official closing. Some were discussing internships. Others were brainstorming projects. A few were quietly reflecting on how different the world outside really feels from books and exams.
The visit to Askan Technologies was not a field trip. It was a mirror that showed students what lies ahead and what is possible if they stay curious, consistent, and committed.
For the team at Askan as well, it was a refreshing reminder. These young minds brought with them not just questions, but an infectious energy that made the day feel alive and hopeful.
