At Askan Technologies, we know that how you feel at work matters just as much as the work you do. That’s why, on June 21, 2025, we held an Ergonomics and Posture Care Session to guide our team take better care of their health, right at their desks. We all spend hours in front of their laptops, often without thinking about how we are sitting or how it impact our bodies over time. This session was a chance to slow down and learn some easy, practical habits that can make a real changes in how we feel each day-more comfortable, more energized, and better in the long run.

Distinguished Guests Who Enriched the Session:

The event was graced by esteemed guests including Dr. Supriya K Vinod, Vice Chairwoman of IWN Puducherry and Professor & Principal at Mother Theresa Postgraduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences; Dr. Kavipriya O, Chief Dental Surgeon of the Mobile Dental Unit and State Nodal Officer for the National Oral Health Program under the Government of Puducherry; and Mrs. Chitra Shah, a visionary social change leader and founder of Satya Special School, known for her extensive work in disability rights, education, and social inclusion. Their presence added depth and richness to the discussion on well-being.

    Small Changes, Big Benefits:

The aches and pains many office workers feel don’t appear overnight. They gradually develop from daily habits like sitting the wrong way, typing with poor hand positioning, or working without proper back support. During the session, we learned that small changes, such as adjusting chair height, keeping feet flat on the ground, or sitting upright, can significantly reduce strain on the spine and joints. Even arm and wrist placement matters. Keeping elbows close and wrists relaxed helps avoid muscle tension that may lead to long-term discomfort.

    Dr. Supriya Vinod’s Practical Approach:

Our guest speaker, Dr. Supriya Vinod, shared simple, relatable advice backed by years of experience. She reminded us that posture is not just about how we sit. It also affects how we breathe, how alert we feel, and how well we concentrate. Rather than recommending major lifestyle changes, Dr. Supriya encouraged us to focus on small, consistent habits. Stretching the neck and shoulders regularly, supporting the lower back, and aligning the head with the screen can have lasting benefits when practiced daily. She also brought attention to commonly overlooked behaviors, such as staying in one position for too long or placing the keyboard too far from the body. These habits can quietly lead to fatigue and poor posture over time.

    Wellness Beyond the Desk:

What made the session even more meaningful was the emphasis on overall wellness, not just posture. Dr. Supriya discussed the importance of hydration and nutrition in maintaining physical and mental well-being during work hours. She highlighted natural sources of Vitamin D and explained how spending a few minutes in early morning sunlight can strengthen bones and improve muscle health. These benefits are essential for maintaining proper posture. She also recommended hydrating fruits like watermelon, which help reduce fatigue and support muscle function. Her message was clear. Taking care of your diet is just as important as taking care of how you sit.

    Stretch, Stand, and Move

One of the most engaging parts of the session was the stretch demonstration. We practiced simple movements targeting the neck, shoulders, and lower back. These exercises were easy to follow and offered immediate relief. Dr. Supriya also introduced standing stretches designed to reduce discomfort caused by long periods of sitting. Light spine twists, shoulder rolls, and gentle leg stretches improved blood flow and helped reduce muscle tension. These quick movements can be easily added into our day between meetings or tasks. The exercises were particularly effective for:
    • Releasing tension from the lower back
    • Improving blood flow to the legs
    • Easing pressure on the spine
    • Relieving symptoms of nerve-related discomfort

    Creating a Healthier Work Culture:

This session was more than just a health talk. It served as a powerful reminder that wellness is achievable with small, consistent actions. You don’t need a major lifestyle change to feel better. Sit better, eat better, and move a little more. Over time, these habits lead to meaningful improvements in both health and productivity. At Askan Technologies, we are proud to support initiatives that care not only about results but also about the people behind them. Sessions like this help us build a workplace culture where awareness, comfort, and health are valued as much as technical skill and achievement. A healthy team is not only happier but also more motivated and resilient.
